Journey of Hope: Rayer Bazar Slum

According to the latest census on slum dwellers by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), approx. 2.23 million people live in 500 slums across the country. Slum residents cannot fulfill their basic needs like food, clothing, shelter, education, and healthcare. In Bangladesh people living in slum areas are deprived of basic needs – healthy food, clothing, education, healthcare, and housing. Besides this, the lack of safe water, gas & electricity, hygiene & sanitation, a healthy environment, access to information, legal rights & protection, and entertainment, makes life extremely challenging for slum dwellers.

With the goal of serving the underprivileged people, Spreeha has been working in the Rayer Bazar slum since 2012. Our healthcare program includes primary healthcare, basic screening services, prenatal and postnatal care, Immunization, child health education programs, health education, and family planning services.

Spreeha’s education program includes pre-school, after-school, and scholarship programs. In addition, we have special programs for awareness and scholastic advancement. Spreeha’s skills training program provides leadership skills, sexual and reproductive health awareness (Adolescent Girls Clubs). We also serve the community with job skills training such as computer skills training, and sewing skills training.
