“I want to study till I finish my higher education as my dream is to become a doctor and serve people of our country free of cost”, Limon said when he was receiving Spreeha’s Shams and Nasreen Scholarship in 2018. He was in 10th grade then.

When he was in eighth grade, Limon attended Spreeha’s program for adolescents called “Ichcheghuri” (my wishes), a program to energize kids in the slum area with their dreams and aspirations. At that time Limon had no one by his side except his mother. Spreeha opened the door of dreams for him. And what a dream he had!

He moved to Dhaka with his mother and his younger brother when he was only eight years old. His father refused to support Limon’s education, but his mother was determined to keep Limon in school. She started working at Spreeha. Although she allocated a big chunk of her income for his school fees and supplies, the increased expenses in the higher grades made education unaffordable for him. Gradually it was getting difficult for Limon to continue school. Shams and Nasreen Scholarship, introduced in 2018, revived his hope to go to high school that once seemed too distant.

Limon has been true to his word.

The pandemic could not stop him from studying and excelling at all the exams. He recently completed his HSC examination and qualified for the nationwide medical admission test.

We are super excited to share with you that Limon also excelled at this one and got admission to one of the prestigious public medical schools, Faridpur Medical College.

These public medical colleges are highly competitive. Out of millions of students this year, 116,792 students were qualified for the admission test. And out of that, only 4,350 were selected for the prestigious public medical schools. Getting admission to a public medical school is regarded as one of the highest achievements for students in Bangladesh.
