Dr. Halida Hanum Akhter, MBBS, MCPS (Gyn), MPH, DrPH

Global Health Expert, Reproductive Health Epidemiologist

Dr. Halida Hanum Akhter brings over three decades of invaluable national and international experience as a distinguished reproductive health epidemiologist. A medical graduate with Membership of College of Physician and Surgeon (MCPS) in OB/GYN, and holding a Master's in Public Health (MPH) and a Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) from Johns Hopkins University, Dr. Akhter stands as a testament to excellence in her field.

As a Rockefeller Fellow, she served as an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer (EIS) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Atlanta, GA. Dr. Akhter's illustrious career includes being the Chief of Party on the USAID-DFID NGO Health Service Delivery Project, Senior Country Representative with Pathfinder International, and Founding CEO of the Bangladesh Institute of Research for Promotion of Essential and Reproductive Health Technologies (BIRPERHT).

Currently a faculty member at the Center for Human Nutrition, Department of International Health, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Baltimore, Maryland, Dr. Akhter's contributions extend to her role as the Director General of the Family Planning Association of Bangladesh (FPAB) and as the Global Technical Lead for Reproductive Health and Family Planning at Management Sciences for Health.

Recognized with the United Nations Population Award in 2006 and an Outstanding JHU Alumni Award, Dr. Akhter's leadership in committees of WHO Geneva, International Medical Advisory Panel of IPPF London, and other global entities underscores her commitment to advancing reproductive health worldwide.
